ACORD 25 (Certificate of Liability Insurance)
The standard ACORD form used to evidence liability coverage — the certificate a business issues to show it carries insurance.
The ACORD 25 is the "Certificate of Liability Insurance," the most commonly requested certificate in commercial insurance. It summarizes a policyholder\'s general liability, auto, umbrella and workers\' compensation coverage — carrier, policy numbers, limits and effective dates — on a single standardized page.
It is issued to a "certificate holder," often a landlord, general contractor or client who requires proof of coverage before doing business.
- It is evidence, not the policy — the certificate does not itself change or grant coverage.
- Additional insured status must be granted by policy endorsement, not merely by listing someone on the certificate.
Agencies issue large volumes of ACORD 25s, so certificate-tracking tools are a common feature in management systems.
