NowCerts is a cloud-based insurance agency management system (AMS) aimed at independent P&C agencies that want real AMS capability — ACORD forms, carrier downloads, commissions and a client portal — without an enterprise contract or an enterprise price. It is one of the few management systems in this category that publishes its pricing openly, starting at $99/month, which alone makes it worth a look for solo and small agencies weighing a switch off spreadsheets or a legacy system.

One point of confusion up front: NowCerts announced a rebrand to "Momentum" in 2024, but as of this writing the product still ships, bills and logs in under the NowCerts name and domain. If you see "Momentum AMP" referenced, it is the same platform and the same company (founded in 2009 by Peter Germanov).

What Is NowCerts #

NowCerts is a full agency management system delivered as a web app. It handles the day-to-day system-of-record work an independent agency runs on: client and policy records, document storage, ACORD form generation, renewals, commission reconciliation and reporting, with a built-in sales pipeline and an insured-facing portal. The focus is property & casualty — agencies writing personal and commercial lines — rather than life and health.

The company targets agencies "of all sizes," and its published tiers scale from a single user up to 50+, but the sweet spot is clearly the solo-to-small-agency segment that finds Applied Epic or Vertafore AMS360 too heavy and too expensive.

Features #

Management system and ACORD forms #

The core is standard AMS territory: client and policy management, document storage, ACORD forms, plus supplemental and intake PDF form mapping so agencies can push data into the forms they already use. A custom workflow engine lets you codify repeatable service tasks.

Carrier downloads #

NowCerts pulls IVANS carrier downloads so policy data, renewals and endorsements flow from the carriers straight into the client record instead of being re-keyed. That carrier-to-AMS link is the difference between a book that stays current and one a CSR reconciles by hand. On the lower tiers it is a paid add-on (listed at $35), which is worth noting when you compare the sticker price to systems that bundle downloads.

CRM and renewals #

A sales pipeline (CRM) and a dedicated Renewal Center sit inside the same system, so producers work prospects and CSRs work renewals without a second tool. As policies approach their x-date, the Renewal Center queues them so an agency chases the renewal in time to keep the client on the books — retention is the quiet engine of a healthy P&C book, and NowCerts puts the workflow that protects it next to the record it runs on. An agency overview dashboard and interactive reports give the owner a read on the book.

Accounting and commissions #

Billing/accounting and commission reconciliation are built in — the part of AMS work small agencies most often outgrow spreadsheets for. Commission reconciliation matches what carriers actually paid against what the agency booked, so revenue leakage surfaces instead of hiding.

Client portal and texting #

A white-labeled insured portal lets policyholders pull their own documents and certificates, which cuts the service calls that eat a small team's day. Texting is tiered: free one-way messaging, with two-way SMS/MMS and mass texting delivered through a Twilio integration at additional cost — so a renewal nudge or a payment reminder can go out by text to the insured, not just by email.

Pricing #

NowCerts publishes monthly tiers openly — unusual in a category that is overwhelmingly quote-only:

Plan Price Users included Additional user
Essentials $99 / month 1 $45
Professional $169 / month 2 $45
Business (best value) $349 / month 5 $45
Enterprise Call for quote 50+ $45

There is a free trial ("Start For Free"). Two things to plan for: annual billing is charged as 13 months (the "13th month fee"), and IVANS carrier downloads run $35 on the Essentials and Professional tiers. File storage scales with the plan (10 GB up to 1 TB). NowCerts does not charge a separate setup fee on the published tiers — the sticker is the sticker, plus the downloads and texting add-ons if you switch them on.

Who It's For (and Who It Isn't) #

NowCerts fits a solo agent or a small P&C agency that wants a real management system — downloads, ACORD forms, commissions, a portal — at a predictable, published price, and is comfortable on a modern cloud app. It is a natural landing spot for agencies leaving a spreadsheet, a discontinued AMS, or an enterprise system whose cost no longer matches the book.

It is a weaker fit for a life & health or benefits agency (look at AgencyBloc instead), for a large multi-location operation that needs deep general-ledger accounting and complex permissions (AMS360 or Applied Epic), or for an agency that wants carrier downloads included rather than billed as an add-on.

Is It Legit and Worth It? #

NowCerts is an established product — in market since 2009, with a sizable independent-agency user base and an active release cadence (open APIs, premium-finance integrations, acquisitions of smaller insurtech tools). For the price, the capability is genuinely broad: few systems put ACORD forms, downloads, commissions, a CRM pipeline and a client portal in one plan at this level.

The honest caveats are practical rather than fundamental. The rebrand to "Momentum" that hasn't fully landed creates naming confusion. Carrier downloads and two-way texting are add-ons, so the real monthly cost sits above the headline $99 once you switch them on. And as with any AMS, migrating your book in is the hard part — plan the data migration and onboarding, which NowCerts tiers from self-serve up to a dedicated account manager.

Alternatives #

  • HawkSoft — another small-agency P&C AMS, known for support; quote-only pricing.
  • Applied Epic — the enterprise/commercial standard if you outgrow NowCerts.
  • Vertafore AMS360 — mid-market P&C with deeper accounting.
  • AgencyBloc — the better fit if you write life & health / benefits.

Pros

  • Publishes clear pricing from $99/month — rare in the AMS category
  • Real AMS depth for the price: ACORD forms, downloads, commissions, CRM and client portal in one plan
  • Free trial and self-serve onboarding lower the barrier to switching
  • Modern cloud app with open APIs and an active release cadence
  • Scales from a single user to 50+ without changing platforms

Cons

  • Carrier downloads (IVANS) are a paid add-on on lower tiers, not bundled
  • Two-way texting requires a paid Twilio integration on top
  • Annual billing is charged as 13 months, not 12
  • The 2024 "Momentum" rebrand hasn't fully landed — naming is confusing
  • P&C-focused; not the right tool for life & health / benefits agencies
